Challenging Times for Summerland and the Okanagan
As you are probably aware, catastrophic wildfires are currently plaguing the Okanagan Valley and other parts of British Columbia. One of the worst of these is the Bald Range fire, that threatened the municipality of Summerland, including its two dozen or so wineries as well as scores of other businesses in the area. As a wine publication based in Vancouver, I am helping to amplify the message that there are many ways you can support these affected wineries and other beverage producers.
Plan a Visit
The immediate wildfire danger in Summerland has passed and many wineries and other businesses have been allowed back into the area and reopened again for business. Naturally, check first with any winery you plan to visit and determine smoke and weather conditions in that area but please consider a visit. They will be very glad to see you. Purchase a Summerland Product
Online You don’t need to travel to the wineries to support them. Wine, gift certificates and other products are available online. The fires may impact next year’s vintage but wines from the excellent 2025 vintage are available right now. Many of the wineries have an online shop and are fulfilling orders. Please also follow or share Summerland businesses and producers on social media and let people in your circle know that Summerland could use some help right now.
